A couple of smartphones, a few high-end cameras and an exciting new console all arrived at the tech2 labs this week. Here's a pick of the reviews.
XOLO Q1000 (6.5/10)
Xolo smartphones have always stood out from the rest of the low-cost smartphone brigade thanks to a solid feel in the hand. The Xolo Q1000 has premium looks, a powerful quad-core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a 5-inch IPS panel with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. On paper, this phone does seem to pack a punch, but the Rs 14,990 price tag may be more than what buyers may want to shell out, especially seeing what the competition is offering.

One of the coolest Kickstarter projects we’ve seen so far, the Ouya is definitely a slick-looking piece of technology. With a Tegra 3 processor with four cores clocked at 1.7GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, it should be able to keep up with most of the graphically-intense titles on Android, like Dead Trigger and Shadowgun. But the missing gaming titles and the absence of Google Play Store support may become a problem in the long run.
Canon EOS 700D (7/10)
Right at the top of Canon’s consumer range of DSLR cameras, the EOS 700D is an upgrade to the EOS 650D. With a sturdier build, redesigned mode dial, preview for creative filters and higher Live View refresh rate, Canon has also bundled in the new EF-S 18-55 IS STM lens. Weighing less than 750 g and sporting a price tag of Rs 59,995, the Canon 700D is definitely a worthy consideration for someone who wants to move a step higher than the EOS 1100D or EOS 550D.
The Canon EOS 700D is a worthy successor to the EOS 650D...
BlackBerry Q10 Review (6.5/10)
The Q10 is a beautifully-crafted handset and there's no two ways about it. It feels really good to hold and the curved edges lend the body a good grip. The physical QWERTY keyboard is almost edge-to-edge with decently large keys. With a microUSB and microHDMI port, three microphones, an 8MP camera and a removable back cover, the Q10 seems to pack all the right features. The Q10 is undoubtedly a worthy successor to the Bold 9900. Apart from coming with a faster processing speed, better screen, great battery life, the phone runs on the latest version of BB 10 . The price tag, which sets users back a whopping Rs 44,900, is a huge issue though.
BlackBerry Q10 is a pretty cool smartphone, if you dont mind the hefty price tag..
Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR (7/10)
The FinePix HS50EXR is the Fujifilm’s latest offering in the super zoom segment. With a sturdy feel, the camera comes with 42x optical zoom which gives equivalent focal length ranges from a wide 24 mm to a whopping 1000 mm, making it practical both indoors and outdoors. The one problem that users may balk at is the Rs 32,999 price tag, which may be a tad much considering what you get and the kind of performance this camera offers. Still, the HS50EXR should have some takers in the market.
