It’s been a busy week for our reviewers with a slew of smartphones, tablets, cameras and laptops passing through our labs. Here’s a round-up of our reviews from this week.
Asus Fonepad (7.5/10)
Believe it or not, we think the Asus Fonepad offers better value for money than the Nexus 7. It has a pleasing and functional UI, decent battery life, plays full HD videos without a stutter and boasts of expandable storage. What’s more it also doubles up as a phone. Between this and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, we’d recommend the Asus Fonepad for its higher resolution screen, better camera and battery life.

Lenovo S890 (6.5/10)
The S890 has a great display but the fact is it’s not very good in terms of real world performance. But the measly onboard storage and the lack of dual-band Wi-Fi, GLONASS, 1080p video recording mean it could play second fiddle to its competition like the Samsung Galaxy Grand.
Asus VivoBook S550CM (7/10)
The Asus VivoBook S550C has been stuck with a premium price tag of nearly Rs 58,000 for the slim body, the touchscreen and switchable graphics. However, for that price, the lack of Full HD display, backlit keyboard, Core i7 processor hurt its chances.
Acer Iconia Tab B1 (5.5/10)
Acer’s budget tablet could have been a Nexus 7 killer, but there are some glaring omissions and the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. Sadly, the B1 isn’t the best choice if you are looking for a budget Android slate.
LAVA iris 455 (5.5/10)
Yet another budget smartphone, the LAVA iris 455 is priced at Rs 7,999 and initially sounds like a good deal thanks to the dual-core processor and qHD display. But the low battery life, low-quality display panel and the poor camera performance are huge dealbreakers. Only recommended if you are on a stretched budget.
Fujifilm FinePix SL1000 (5/10)
We don’t see any reason to recommend the FinePix SL1000. If someone gifts it to you, regret that you didn’t get the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS, which is a stellar performer that you can buy for the same price. The dismal performance and frustrating-to-use interface overshadow the awesome 50x optical zoom.
Razer Tiamat 7.1 Gaming Headset (5.5/10)
Razer Tiamat is one of the few true 7.1 channel gaming headsets, but cramming in ten discrete speakers is easier said than done and this seriously brings down what could have been a very good headset.
