Still using a black and white mobile phone? This Holi, bring a little color to your life by upgrading to a new color handset. And don’t worry about the price - there’s a good reason why you’re still hanging on to your old phone, isn’t there? Keeping that in mind, we’ve tried to keep the phone prices below an inexpensive Rs. 3,000.
Nokia 2310 (Rs. 2,999)
One of Nokia’s cheapest color phones, the Nokia 2310 comes with a modest 96x68 CSTN display capable of showing 64k colors. The phone can also ring in the festivities with MP3 ring tones, although you can only put in around 4MB worth of those. The FM radio tuner will keep you occupied when you are not.

Samsung C140 (Rs. 2,399)
The C140 is a recently launched handset that gives you color on the cheap. It has a higher resolution 128x128, 64k color CSTN screen. It doesn’t have too much memory, with just 600k available for use, nor does it have an FM radio tuner, but it does make up for that by offering GPRS and MMS support, along with Mobile Tracker and other security features.

Sony Ericsson J230i (Rs. 2,999)
The J230i competes with the above two by splashing a 128x128, 64k color STN display and an FM radio tuner, along with GPRS and MMS support, but once again the memory is a shortfall - just 500kb with space for only 50 messages. But even so, the J320i impresses with it’s sound quality.

Motorola C168 (Rs. 2,790)
The Moto might be the only odd one in the lot to have a 128x128 display that can only do 4k colors, but it is a little cheaper. The rest of it is rounded up pretty fine: GPRS and MMS support, an FM radio tuner, around 640kb of memory and storage for upto 250 messages.

LG B2050 (Rs. 2,679)
LG’s decent entry level offering comes with a capable, 128x128 64k color display. Beyond that, it does have GPRS and MMS support and 1.9mb of memory for storage, but it’s lack of an FM radio tuner makes this phone a good choice only for the purist who doesn’t care about frills (such as radio), but needs some color in life!

These shouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket! Enjoy yourself on Holi, but avoid throwing baloons at unsuspecting passers by. Happy Holi!
