Cult classic console shooter TimeSplitters is finally getting a sequel after eight years. The game, titled timeSplitters Rewind, is a collection of maps, weapons and characters from the earlier games and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4. The project is being led by Michael Hubicka and it is being developed by roughly 35 part-time developers, according to CinemaBlend .
However, there is still a chance that the game might not make it. Hubicka told CinemaBlend that the team is still working on obtaining the rights to the game from IP owner CryTek.
The character looks a bit like Vin Diesel
“We’re actually going to go ahead and start development [of Timesplitters Rewind> on PlayStation 4. Just because we’re pretty confident Crytek’s going to say go ahead and do it. But we don’t want them saying go ahead and do it when we’re caught with our pants down and we’re like halfway through development and [then> start something for the PlayStation 4,” he said.
“So we decided that since they released the SDK to allow us to do this, we’re going to go ahead and do it ourselves, and when they say ‘yes’ or ’no’ we can decide what to do with that. For now we’re just going to go ahead and do it. So at least we’re prepared”.
Later this year, Hubicka aims to release a playable alpha build of the game. The development team is apparently 20 percent done with the game. The team hopes to release playable parts of the game as soon as possible and add everything else—new weapons, characters and maps—as they are ready.
