Thumb-sized PC Project Ophelia to start shipping in July for around $100

Dell has been working on giving the term “portable PC” a whole new meaning for quite some time now. Dubbed Project Ophelia, Dell’s thumb-sized PC will start shipping in July and will cost around $100 (approximately Rs 5,488). It is based on Android and plugs into a display through an HDMI port.

Project Ophelia can run applications and access files that have been stored remotely. Its connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and it is primarily aimed towards those whose computer work mostly tends to revolve around the web.

Because of its Android-based nature, Ophelia has many things in common with the Ouya. Both come with the same price tag and run on the same operating system. But because of the Ouya’s specialised focus on gaming, Ophelia seems to be a much more versatile device.

The device can do anything other Android devices can, including downloading apps, movies and TV shows from Google Play. Users can also play Android games on it. Because of its Internet capabilities, it can also stream movies from services such as Hulu, Netflix or YouTube.

Among other software, Ophelia will come with Wyse’s PocketCloud, which lets users access files that have been stored on PCs, servers or even mobile devices. The interface will also be modified, since Android’s default interface is too heavily focused on being used on a touch-based interface.

“We’ve done a number of things in the software of the product and outside that will make it interesting,” Executive Director of Cloud Client Computing at Dell Jeff McNaught said. “We want to make sure when we release the product that it’s perfect. The enterprise is one market we understand,” he continued, explaining the July release date.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
