With the next-gen consoles—PlayStation 4 and Xbox One—right around the corner, new reports are popping up. According to GameInformer, the PlayStation 4 won’t be able to work with third-party Bluetooth headsets at launch. Sony released a statement stating that Sony-branded PULSE gaming headsets will only work after a system update that is going to be released for the console in the future. As for USB-powered headsets, a system update in the future will allow those as well.
In the meantime, gamers will be stuck using Sony’s packaged headsets. Sadly enough, the headsets bundled with the PlayStation 4 are mono, which means that audio quality isn’t exactly its strongest selling point. Hopefully, those who picked up high-end headsets will be able to use it eventually, but it does suck that they won’t be able to use it with the console as soon as they get it.

Xbox One has a similar story, where earlier, Microsoft had announced that the console won’t be able to support the headset that was shipped with the Xbox 360. Thanks to backlash from fans, however, Microsoft shortly after announced an adapter that would make the headset compatible with the Xbox One. The Xbox One will also have a headset bundled with it.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are all set to hit stores in November in some markets. Anybody’s guess about when the consoles will eventually make it to India is as good as ours right now, and we are unfortunately left at the mercy of Microsoft and Sony.
