Think You Know What The PlayBook Will Cost?

As we reported yesterday, the BlackBerry Playbook is set to come to India on the 22nd of June 2011 and our sources claim that the Playbook would be priced competitively; however we have not received any indication what the actual numbers for this tablet would be like.

BlackBerry Playbook coming to India!

How much does this tablet cost?

Being priced competitively is quite ambiguous, so looking at the prices of other tablet vendors in India, we are presuming that it would be priced in the same range of devices like the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Acer Iconia or iPad 2 -16 GB Wi-Fi only version. But this may not be the pricing solution for RIM as then one could rather opt for either one of the similarly priced tablets from other manufacturers. This is also taking in to consideration the size of the Playbook; which is 7 inches.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The BlackBerry Playbook has not fared well according to international reviews with them saying that it is great for just Internet browsing and media playback. BlackBerry has very few Apps in their App World so that is another downside for them, though they have partnered with Android where some Android Apps can be used on the Playbook. However, Apple and Android are leagues ahead where Apps are concerned and this may well be a deciding factor regarding purchasing a tablet for some people.

Only chance it has of survival could be if it was priced in the Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 24,000 range, if it has to compete with the ever increasing tablet market where competition is fierce and is only going to get more so. Various other tablet manufacturers are selling their 7-inch Android tablets in the region of Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 23,000. The Playbook sells in the US at Rs. 22,624 for the 16 GB version, Rs. 27,158 for the 32 GB version and Rs. 31,692 for the 64 GB model. Since these tablets have the option of only Wi-Fi, this price would be pretty steep without having 3G connectivity which is becoming a norm right now with most carriers offering this connectivity option.

We are speculating the price of the BlackBerry Playbook to be in the region of Rs. 28,000, which is not exactly competitive. We won’t have to wait for long to know the price for sure as it is expected to be announced officially on the 22nd of June.

Let us know in the comments below as to how much you think BlackBerry will price the Playbook at and if the price you feel they sell it at would be justified.
