A thief and accomplice walked away with 19 iPhones from a New York shop by just dressing like Apple store employees and pretending that they belong. The phones were stolen from the repair drawer in the store, which is why they were not tagged and did not set off any alarms on exit. Once the devices were taken from the repair department, the thief passed on the phones to an accomplice, who hid them in a shirt. DNA Info reported the incident. This is not the first time a similar modus operandi was used by thieves. According to a report by Engadget, thieves had used a similar method to steal phones twice from another area in Manhattan. Gizmodo notes that the new Apple uniforms may be to blame, because they are available in a number of styles. Another problem that makes the area lucrative for thieves, is that new Apple store employees are trained here. Seeing new and unfamiliar faces around is an everyday occurrence, so a thief trying to blend in will not stand out. TheNextWeb notes that 59 iPhones were stolen by thieves who used Apple uniform t-shirts to infiltrate the repair rooms of Apple Stores. For those interested in trying their luck, shirts similar to the ones used by Apple employees can be purchased here .
