 "The Witcher 3 to have three distinct endings depending on choices made by players")
Lots of information on upcoming games has been revealed during the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC). The latest one comes for The Witcher 3. According to an interview with Polygon, the developers have said that the game will have three different endings with a lot of minor variations between them.
Because of these variations, there can be a total of 36 different world states, according to CDProjekt’s Managing Director Adam Badowski and Head of Marketing Michael Platkow-Gilewski. The two stated that the game tracks player choices throughout the playthrough very thoroughly, and because of this, it ends up having many changes, ranging from tiny ones to major ones. When asked how many smaller changes the game endings will have, Platkow-Gilewski stated that the development team stopped counting when it passed the 300 count.

“The game is quite complex,” Badowski said. “We didn’t mean to develop something special for the endings, it’s a natural consequence of the story line. The story has hundreds of different branches and sub plots. We have to just sum all of those elements up in the epilogues. Some of those elements are taken from the very beginning and some from other moments of the storyline. All of them will connect in the epilogue. We have a lot of things to summarize. We didn’t spend time on inventing endings, it was just the consequence of those choices.”
CDProjekt RED had announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt back in February. The company has said that the game will be released in 2014 simultaneously on all high-end platforms, which could mean that it will see a release on next-gen consoles. The game will be using the same art direction from The Witcher 2 and will be improving the visuals with the REDEngine 3. The game is set to combine the series’ epic storyline with an open-world environment, which the company boasts will be a living world larger than any other in modern RPG history.
However, all good news is accompanied by bad news, and it’s no different this time. The studio also revealed that this would be the last Witcher game it would make.
“The captivating and non-linear story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes place in a rich, truly open-world environment. A world which is thrilling to explore, full of daring adventures, momentous quests, memorable characters, and unique monsters. Players will freely travel through woods, lakes, mountains, cities and villages. Each region is inhabited by distinct populations with their own customs, legends and problems. The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is 30 times bigger than The Witcher 2," said Badowski during the announcement.
