The Week That Was

This week was pretty cold for gaming news and the only thing that set the net buzzing was news of a Resident Evil reboot. Still there was a ton of stuff happening across the site and here’s a neat summary of all that.

There’s a spot of good news for gear heads as Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed raced to stores this week for the Xbox360 (Rs. 2499), PS3 (Rs. 2499) and PC (Rs. 999). Even though this is a Need for Speed game, Shift 2 is more sim like than any NFS game in the past so pick it up only if you’re into such games. Perhaps this trailer will give you a better picture of things.

Gameloft unveiled their launch lineup for Sony’s Xperia Play and it looks like they’ve ported most of their famous iOS games to Sony’s beacon of hope for mobile gaming. However it does look like the Xperia Play’s more physical control scheme could definitely enhance and maybe even improve gameplay to a certain extent. As far as the Xperia Play goes, we’ve heard it may launch in India soon. Real soon.

PC gamers whined some more about the lack of DirectX 11 in Crysis 2 this week. And it seemed that Crytek would silence them when news of a DX11 patch for the game emerged but then Crytek squashed these rumors making PC gamers cry even louder. Lack of DX11 aside, we thoroughly enjoyed the game and would have even nominated it for our favorite shooter this year if not for the dumb as a dodo enemy AI.

Killzone 3 is set to receive some love in the form of brand new multiplayer only DLC (Downloadable Content) that’ll include two MP maps inspired by the single player campaign. And speaking of an exclusive PS3 shooter, Resistance 3 is all set to get 3D and Move support for that added dose of immersion. Good news for those who own a 3D TV but are appalled by the lack of solid games.

Battlefield 3 was back in the news once again with a new gameplay video that showcased the game’s melee system followed by people getting shot in the face. DICE have also promised a 12 minute gameplay video on the 17th of April 2011 so mark that day down. Not that you’re not excited about the game but it seems Battlefield 3 will offer players a 12 hour single player campaign. Big news since the Battlefield series (not the Bad Company series) never had a SP campaign to begin with.

BloodRayne, the blood sucking vixen that was totally trolled on by Uwe Boll in his horrific movies is all set to get resurrected via a 2D side scrolling action game that’ll see her “team up with a mysterious new friend to stop an evil vampire massacre.” I would make some more “sucking” jokes but my imagination’s totally dry.

Capcom is planning a reboot of the Resident Evil franchise with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which will be more action oriented than any RE game in the past. Besides an official announcement, certain websites have summarized a ton of content from exclusive magazine previous that you can check out here.

And finally we have our Games of April 2011 list up on the site that’ll list out the games worth your hard earned dough this month.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
