The Week that Was

This week wasn’t particularly exciting but it had its share of news. And here are the highlights.

So remember that article I had done a while back about how juvenile marketing was hurting the gaming industry? Well, here’s yet another video that just strengthens my argument. It seems developer 2K Games have totally umm misunderstood their audience with this promo for Top Spin 4. See it to believe it.

This week we ended up reviewing Homefront that honestly speaking was kind of a buzz kill. The game boasted of a very interesting premise but failed to capitalize on it. Add in mediocre and generic gameplay and you have something you’ve probably played a million times by now. The only saving grace was its multiplayer, which still requires a bit of polish as well. It’s no wonder we gave this game an average 6/10.

If you are on the lookout for a non violent, child friendly game, we got you covered as well. Check out our De Blob 2 review, a cute platformer that’s adult as well as child friendly thanks to its “feel-good theme, funky soundtrack and accessible gameplay.”

Everyone’s favorite angry man, Kratos returns to your consoles once again in the form of a playable character in the latest Mortal Kombat game. Off course, he’s exclusive to the PS3 so you’ll experience his wrath only on that platform. And here’s an awesome video showing him decimate the rest of the Mortal Kombat universe.

Crysis 2 released this past week and it turns out PC gamers were not too happy with the game. Between random crashes and freeze ups to the inability to play the game’s online multiplayer, the game that was once a crowning achievement for PC gamers has now become yet another shoddy port. So far the PC version’s working fine for me with just one crash in my two hour play session. Do let us know if you’ve faced any more issues.

Maximum sloppiness?

Capcom slyly announced a new Resident Evil game via US magazine OXM. Apparently they’re taking players to Raccoon City where it all began. While the game’s not officially announced on the net yet, Stickskills has been kind enough to summarize the article for us. A long but interesting read for RE fans.

First Strike, the first batch of DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops has finally arrived on PCs via Steam and it brings with it a bunch of new multiplayer maps (five to be exact) as well as a brand new co-operative zombie mode. This should satiate your bloodlust for zombie genocide before Dead Island arrives.

Oh and speaking of Dead Island, the ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) have censored the game’s logo for North America. Apparently Americans cannot handle a zombie hanging from a tree but they can go nuts over a video where a little girl turns into a flesh eating monster, takes a bite out of her dad and then gets thrown out of a window to meet her most untimely doom.

I’ll be back real soon

I’ll be back real soon

Now I know you’re probably going to laugh over this (or cry) but it seems Duke Nukem Forever has been delayed once again. But then again you’ve waited for nine years, so what’s a month right?

And finally I have proclaimed my frustration at being forced to babysit in my games. Share my pain? Head right here and express yourself.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
