The Videocon Cube 3 is made-in-India and supports a panic button

Videocon has announced the made-in-India Cube 3 smartphone with support for India’s now mandatory Panic Button. The smartphone features a 5-inch HD display with 2.5D glass and IPS technology. A 1.3GHz MediTek MT6753 processor (quad-core) powers the phone and it is in-turn supported by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory (expandable to 64GB via a microSD card). Backing this up is a 3,000mAh battery. Videocon says that the phone will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with no word yet on Android 7.0 Nougat updates. While the specs and device itself aren’t notable (though 3GB RAM is nice), Videocon is highlighting the SOS-Be Safe app that comes with the device. In accordance with an Indian government request that asks for all phones to come with a panic button of sorts, the Videocon Cube 3’s power button can be programmed as such. In conjunction with the app, the phone will send out alerts, GPS location, etc. to registered friends and family. One can also report location to friends and family at a fixed frequency. Additionally, a reach-on-time function will alert friends and family when you don’t reach a particular destination by a given time. Videocon had announced earlier that all of their subsequent smartphones will support the Panic button. The phone is expected to sell for Rs 8,490.
