The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is the world's most popular Android phone: Report

Samsung is ruling the roost as far as Android is concerned. A recently published report indicates that the single most popular Android device in the world in 2016 so far has been the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge . In a market saturated with Android phones of all shapes and sizes, it’s quite clear that when it comes to Android flagships, there’s only one winner, Samsung. The company shipped 13.3 million Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge devices in the first half of 2016, 13 million Samsung Galaxy J2 devices and 11.8 million Galaxy S7 devices. It’s been estimated that 577.3 million smartphones were shipped in the same period, but the fact that Samsung rules the top spot says a lot about their strategy. While Apple iPhone shipments fell  by about 16 percent compared to last year, they did sell over 90 million iPhones by their lonesome. The surge in interest in Samsung’s flagship phones has not only earned Samsung their highest profit in two years, but it’s clear that Samsung is eating up at least part of the flagship market that Apple is losing. The one surprise here is the Samsung Galaxy J2. If we’re completely honest, it's not that great a smartphone. It’s popularity can probably be chalked up to brand value. Samsung has also just announced their brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with a bunch of interesting new features. Samsung is certainly sitting pretty. Will the iPhone 7 shake things up again? Probably not . But come September, we’ll know for sure.
