The My Network update for the Narendra Modi App

Prime Minister Narendra Modi used Tim Cook ’s visit as an opportunity to launch a volunteering network update for  the Narendra Modi app . The Prime Minister tweeted out the launch. Tim Cook responded with a Tweet expressing his best wishes for the application to the Prime Minister, as well as promising to visit the country again. https://twitter.com/narendramodi/status/733904479263821824 https://twitter.com/tim_cook/status/733912428342214656 The application is a platform to involve the common population of India in the governance process. The offcial Narendra Modi App has come a long way since launch . There is easy access to all of Narendra Modi’s updates, from news, to photos to the latest episode of the Mann Ki Baat podcast . Users can collaborate on various tasks. One popular activity is participating in making the greetings on the occasion of various festivals, for official communications by various governmental organisations. At times, these organisations host competitions and polls for choosing new branding, logos and slogans. Users can create, and then vote for symbols that are most relevant to them. My Network adds Facebook, Email, Whatsapp, SMS and Twitter integration, and allows interested parties to collaborate among themselves for voluntary tasks. ![namo_app_my_networks_update_01](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/namo_app_my_networks_update_01.jpg) The splash screen is similar to a messaging app user profile. This serves the purpose of making the PM seem immediately familiar, and within reach of fingertips. After a quick sign up, which requires a real name, phone number and location, you can start creating groups or participate in existing communities. This is just the start of the new feature, so it is not populated with too many groups or tasks as of now. The My Network feature uses a saffron colour scheme. ![namo_app_my_networks_update_02](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/namo_app_my_networks_update_02.jpg) There are a lot of options to invite friends to use the platform. You can send invitations via SMS, Email, WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter. The search tab has a curated or ranked list of people and organisations that can be added as friends. The app has verified accounts for some people and organisations, so users can know that they are engaging with the real representatives of these interests. There is a tick mark on the right of profiles to show verified accounts. The search space can be used to find friends or contacts who have already added their profiles to the application. ![namo_app_my_networks_update_03](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/namo_app_my_networks_update_03.jpg) The network has tabs for posts, news, forums, tasks and events. You can share photos, updates, or news in a personal capacity, similar to the Facebook Wall. Forums are a platform for interacting with others on issues of interest. There are already populated with many generic and off topic posts, but at least the posts do not appear to be moderated. Posts in the forum can be responded to with a comment, or liked and shared as well. Tasks are a mechanism to focus collaborative efforts. The update is a mashup of functionalities, with elements from old school bulletin boards to new age social networks.
