The Kinect is Now a PS3 Peripheral

Now here’s something unexpectedly awesome. An Indian tech blogger, Shantanu Goel, has hacked Microsoft’s Kinect motion sensing controller peripheral so it works with the PlayStation 3.

Surprisingly well matched, no?

Goel posted this development over on his blog , and also on Indian gaming community, IndianVideoGamer’s forums . How it works is pretty simple - he used a laptop to emulate a DS3 and mapped the controls to gestures that the Kinect sensor captures. It’s still a work in progress, obviously, but even getting this far is quite a feat in itself. And before you guys start panicking about potential lawsuits and the like, Goel claims this was done on a completely unmodified PS3 and I don’t see how it is in anyway connected to piracy, which is what Sony’s clamping down hard on.
