TGS 09: Reich Impressions

At UTV’s room in the TGS we were shown one of their upcoming games that thankfully wasn’t a crappy casual game shamelessly cashing in on some local custom or sport. It was a first person shooter that went by the name of Reich and by the looks of it, is an all out tribute to old school shooters that’s high on action and low on plot.

Reich takes place in an alternate universe where Germany wins World War II and in true Wolfenstein fashion they began dabbling in the occult. This off course leads to some highly unpleasant stuff and our protagonist steps in to save the day.

The game’s USP like I mentioned earlier is its balls-out action so if you’re looking for a deep story and fleshed out characters here, you’ll be sorely disappointed. The build we got to see at TGS ‘09 looked a bit low res in its textures and even the models seemed poorly detailed but the game made up for that in leaps and bounds with environmental destruction.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now.
