Telstra Telecommunications Private Limited (TTPL), Australia-based Telstra’s Indian joint venture finally steps into India. According to a report in The Hindu , Telstra has grabbed three licenses in India for Internet, national and international long-distance telecoms services. Telstra’s services will be rolled out in the next six months across seven cities - Bangalore, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.

The report further quoted Telstra International Director (Products and Marketing) Nathan Bell saying, “We got ILD, NLD and ISP licence in October (2011)…we are now setting up infrastructure for rolling out services. We expect to start our operation in the first quarter of 2012.

Telstra’s cable landing stations will be in Chennai and Mumbai, while the customer support centers are to be located in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, says Anish Kohli, Director, Telstra Telecommunications. Telstra hasn’t disclosed the investment plan. However, Telstra International now holds 74 percent stake in the joint venture with Microland.
