Here’s what went down at our very first FragFest.

Tech2's FragFest Fragged your Face off

Last Friday Tech2 hosted a small get together for its Mumbai readers at the PlayFactory over a night of gaming and food, the results of which were rather awesome. The FragFest as we’ll be calling it now kicked off at around 7.30 PM after a few ahem, logistical issues. As people started walking in, they were immediately allotted to empty PCs so they could start fragging the crap out of one another (what else you gonna do at a FragFest right?). Most of the popular MP games out there were available on LAN but the bulk of the crowd stuck to three games - Counter-Strike, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Split/Second.

Hardware manufacturer Razer was also present at the event showcasing their latest controller for the Xbox360, the Onza. They were also kind enough to give away two of those controllers as a prize for the Call of Duty tournament. Oh that’s right. We had an impromptu Call of Duty: Modern Warfare tournament that pit everyone at the venue against each other through some intense Team Deathmatch action. The tournament was won by PlayFactory’s very own Ben Verghese and Rohan whose last name we’ve forgotten (sorry Rohan). I held up the fort for Tech2 through all three elimination rounds but got my ass handed to me in the final one. Ben Verghese is also one of Indian’s few professional gamers who along with his clan represent the country in Counter Strike tournaments across the world. He gave aspiring pro gamers a few helpful tips that you can check out when our video goes live tomorrow.

All in all I’d say the event was enjoyed by all, even though it was a tad small in scope. But then again, this is the first of many to come. After Mumbai we plan on hitting other cities, which by the way will be decided by you. All you have to do is head on over to our home page, fill in the poll and we’ll assault your city before you know it.

In the meantime we’d like to extend our thanks to PlayFactory for letting us host our FragFest at their place, Razer for sponsoring the prizes and most importantly to all our readers for showing up.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
