After winning over fans on Twitter and Facebook, PM Modi is now also on photo-sharing website Instagram, posting a snap from his visit to Myanmar. His first photo is a picture from Myanmar where he is currently attending the 25th Asean Summit. Minutes after sharing the photo on his profile, the Prime Minister attracted over 38 thousand followers. His Instagram bio reads " Official Instagram account of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi," along with a link to his webpage. In fact, social media is believed to have played a huge role in the hype that surrounded his highly successful election campaign, that saw the BJP sweep to power on a Modi wave. Modi is the first Prime Minister of India to have held an online Q&A session, inviting questions from people around the world. The Q&A session was was hosted through Google+ Hangouts, which was anchored by Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn. Note that PM Modi is the third most followed world leader on Twitter with over with 5.09 million followers. According to Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, PM Modi is the second most popular after Obama, with about 18.9 million ’likes’ against his name. And his predisposition for social media has not gone unnoticed by Silicon Valley, for whom India is a vital market. Facebook’s CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg as well as COO Sheryl Sandberg made trips to India and visited Modi, where they talked about the role of social media in governance as well as Zuckerberg’s pet project Internet.Org Modi has also taken steps to digitize many government processes, such as jandhan yojna which is opening up 1 crore bank accounts in India. He has also digitzed the process to renew passports and get all land records online. All new government projects and initiatives are also online. Modi’s much talked about ‘Make in India’ campaign for instance, was launched entirely online.
