Tata Motors and Microsoft India team up to redefine the connected car experience

Tata Motors announced that it will team up with Microsoft to improve the in-car connected experience in an event here in Mumbai. During the announcement the company detailed that it will bring the improved connected car experience to India users by taking advantage of Microsoft’s connected vehicle technology along with AI, machine learning and IoT capabilities. Microsoft announced the platform last year while announcing a similar **partnership with Renault-Nissan** . The platform is powered by Microsoft Azure to create a more streamlined, smart and safer driving experience. Tata Motors confirmed that the first automobile with the enhanced experience will be showcased at 87th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2017. Tata will incorporate Microsoft’s functionality in its unique user interface app and services suite. Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors, added, “With the aim to develop innovative and technologically leading products that excite customers, we at Tata Motors, understand the need for a connected ecosystem that can integrate into the digital lives of customers.” He further went on to add, “We are using Microsoft’s connected vehicle technologies on Azure intelligent cloud to bring the digital lives of our customers into the cars they drive.” “We are excited to partner with Tata Motors as they embark on a new journey of innovation with Microsoft Azure cloud. Using IoT, AI and machine learning technologies, we will provide vehicle owners in India and across the world with a safe, productive and fun driving experience,” Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India added while referring to the collaboration between Microsoft and Tata Motors. This development comes right after the **company announced TAMO** , a ring-fenced vertical that will act as open platform to encourage development and innovation. Tata will incorporate cloud computing, analytics, increased human-machine interface and geospatial & mapping in the platform. This integration will provide a digital ecosystem that the company will use in future to compliment the mainstream business. The companies detailed some of the features that we can look forward to in the platform. These features include suggestion for point-of-interests for restaurants, shopping and route assist tips for driver depending on the location and their profile. The platform will also give you timely alerts about the health of the car to ensure that it is well maintained and does not break down in the middle of a trip. Azure will enable FOTA and SOTA updates (firmware and software updates) in addition to the control of settings remotely over the cloud. The more the people use the platform, the more amount of data is captured and analysed, making it a slow and steady improvement for everyone.
