Taking a cue from its rivals, Tata Docomo has announced its decision to slash 2G and 3G Internet rates from July 1 by 90 percent – from 10p/KB to 1p/KB.
Starting from that date, Tata Docomo’s 2G mobile Internet pack users will be able to enjoy the new rates on recharging value of Rs 126 (2GB for 30 days), Rs 149 (2.5GB for 30 days) and Rs 249 (3GB for 60 days), while 3G data pack users will be able to use 2GB of data for 30 days for recharge value of Rs 255. Upon exhausting free 2G or 3G data limit, users can continue accessing the Internet on their mobiles by paying 1p/10KB, instead of the earlier 10p/10KB.

Users should note here that the new reduced rates will be applicable across 19 service areas where Tata Docomo offers its GSM technology-based services. Those who are on national roaming on the telco’s GSM network will be able to use the discounted rates too.
Recently, Vodafone, Airtel and Idea announced reduced rates for their respective 2G data users too. Airtel was earlier reported to have reduced its data charges to 1p/10KB, while Vodafone was seen reducing its data rates to 2p/10KB. Idea’s new data charges currently stand at 2p/10KB, which has been reduced from the earlier 2p/KB rate. The new data charges will be applicable from July 1.
Reducing mobile Internet tariffs will surely earn the telcos some much needed brownie points. Moreover, these reduced rates are bound to convince users to opt for these services.
