Symbol Breaks Ties With Palm OS

Symbol Technologies, manufacturer of enterprise communication and logistics-related equipment like barcode scanners, RFID systems in addition to mobile ‘computers’ running on Palm OS and Windows Mobile, have decided to discontinue handsets based on Palm OS. The decision was taken owing to shortages of certain components, in addition to the preference for the Windows Mobile platform.

Symbol Technologies was recently acquired by Motorola, but this does not seem to have caused the split. The last Palm-based products that Symbol Technologies is offering are the SPT1550 and SPT1800.
