Swiftkey for Android gets Gboard-like feature to search the web directly from keyboard

The feature is currently only available for SwiftKey users on Android.

One of Google Keyboard's highlight feature is now being rolled to Microsoft's Swiftkey. In a brand new update for Android users, Microsoft has announced that Switfkey users will now be able to surf the web directly from the keyboard.

Of course, considering the feature is built in a Microsft app, the search will be powered by Bing.

As of today, this feature is available to users in 11 countries, namely, India, US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Italy and Spain.

How to search the web directly from Switfkey

If you are a Swiftkey user, here's how to use the new web search feature on the Swirftkey keyboard on Android.

  • Head to the Toolbar on the keyboard by tapping the “+” icon on the top left.
  • Clicking on that will show you a search bar, you can do quick fact-finding, look up for a new movie trailer, or check the local weather. The benefit of the feature is that you can search anything on the keyboard without needing to exit the chat.
  • You can also type in a URL, which will take you to the webpage.
  • Similar to Gboard, you can also share the browsing results with someone you are chatting with using either the link or screenshot.
