Microsoft has officially announced that it will stop manufacturing the Surface 3 tablet by the end of this year. The Surface 3 was unveiled back in early 2015 but it never reached India, however the Surface 3 Pro did reach India in January 2016 along with the Surface 4 Pro.

“Since launching Surface 3 over a year ago, we have seen strong demand and satisfaction amongst our customers. Inventory is now limited and by the end of December 2016, we will no longer manufacture Surface 3 devices,” said Microsoft in a statement. The Surface 3 was Microsoft’s third highest selling product this month with 21.5% of total sales, behind the Surface Pro 4 at 30.9% and Surface Pro 3 at 33.9%.

A bunch of news sources had pointed out that stock for the device has been running low and that the company would axe its production in the coming six months. We have no confirmation if Microsoft is working on an update of the tablet anytime soon, but an update to the Surface 4 Pro could be unveiled later this year or probably in early 2017 with a new Kaby Lake chipset from Intel, a 4K display and 16GB of RAM.
