Study links ADHD in lab mice to cell phone radiation

A study conducted by researchers at Yale University showed the effects that cell phone radiation could have on mice that were still in the womb. The researchers found that upon exposure to the cell phone radiation, the mice had developmental disabilities when they were born, including Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. The study appeared in the March 15th edition of Scientific Reports. The way the researchers conducted the study was they used a silenced phone in active call mode as well as an inactive cell phone as a control. They placed both these phones on two different cages with pregnant mice. The mice then gave birth and over time, the researchers used a number of tests to monitor brain activity on the mice who had been exposed to cell phone radiation when they were foetuses. The results were that the mice that were exposed to the active phone showed lower memory capacity and were more hyperactive. The researchers concluded that the areas of the brain that controlled these functions were affected by the radiation. They also concluded that these results could be applied to humans and that being exposed to cell phone radiation when gestating could cause ADHD in human offspring.

Radiation can affect your child

The author of the study, Dr. Hugh S. Taylor, chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Yale Medical School said, “We have shown that behavioral problems in mice that resemble ADHD are caused by cell phone exposure in the womb. The rise in behavioral disorders in human children may be in part due to fetal cellular telephone irradiation exposure." Of course, the results cannot be directly applied to humans because for one, mice have shorter gestation periods (19 days). Also, the human brain is essentially a much more developed brain than that of a mouse. Among other issues, cell phone radiation causing cancer in humans is still in a back and forth phase. Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo. see more
