Street Fighter 4—a game that is now five years old—is getting a new major update. According to the Capcom Unity blog, the company will be adding five characters to the ever-popular fighting game. With the update, the game will also be losing its Super Street Fighter 4 moniker, and will instead be dubbed Ultra Street Fighter 4.
The update will be available to players for $14.99 (Rs 900 approx) digitally. It will also be sold through retail channels for $39.99 (Rs 2,400 approx). The retail version of the update will include all the DLC characters that have been released for the game so far as well as all the DLC characters that will be making it to the game in the future.
Ivy was originally a character from Final Fight
The new characters in the update are Rolento, Ivy, Hugo, Elena and a mysterious fifth character. The fifth character will be a completely original one designed from scratch. These characters are making their appearance in a mainline Street Fighter game after a long time. However, four of these characters have already made it to another recent fighting game—Street Fighter X Tekken. The Capcom Unity blog points out that X Tekken plays vastly differently from Street Fighter 4, however. Elena’s last appearance in a mainline Street Fighter game was Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.
Along with the new characters, there will also be some changes to the balance of the game. Namely, characters like Chun-Li and Balrog will be more focused on offense instead of their defensive gameplay. This has been done by increasing Chun-Li’s health and giving her more knockdowns, and increasing the range of Balrog’s bread-and-butter attack. Other characters, such as Duddley and T. Hawk are also getting changes. Overall, this is set to be one of the biggest updates to the game and will vastly change the overall metagame of Street Fighter 4.
