Steve Jobs to Celebrate Birthday with New MacBook Pros

Everyone was expecting updates to the MacBook Pro, but not in time for Steve Jobs’ 56th birthday which will be on the 24th of February, just two days from now. The news comes as shipments of new MacBooks have started to flow into reseller stores. Strict warnings have been issued by Apple not to open up any of the sealed boxes or they might risk having their licenses withdrawn.

There’s a good chance that the new MacBook Pros will be powered by the Intel Sandy Bridge processors. There’s also a chance that Apple might introduce Intel’s new 10 Gbps optical interface called Light Peak which should replace Firewire. The new technology was said to be out on products in the first half of 2011. Another rumour is of the use of liquid metal in their batteries which could improve battery life tremendously. There’s also the chance of seeing SSDs as drives to store the operating system and a traditional drive for bulk storage. There might also be SSD-only versions on sale. Initial news stated that the new MacBook Pros would in fact be coming sometime in early March, but they’ve been preponed to the end of February instead. The last MacBook Pro updates was in April last year and this new update is likely to be a major one.
