Steam kicks off Halloween Sale

The most popular digital distribution platform for PC games is Valve’s Steam. One of the biggest reasons for Steam’s popularity is the massive discounts that the service holds on special occasion. Now, Steam has kicked off its Halloween sale, mostly featuring horror games such as Alan Wake, or games with zombies such as Dead Island, or games with a general Halloween theme such as Costume Quest.

Some of the biggest games up for sale include The Darkness II for $12.49 instead of $49.99, Dead Rising 2 for $7.49 instead of $29.99, and The Walking Dead for $14.99 instead of $24.99. Other games in the sale include Alan Wake, Lone Survivor, and BioShock 2. For a more comprehensive list, you can head over to the Halloween Sale page on Steam.

The Indie Bundle IV was comprised of the games games A Valley Without Wind, Atom Zombie Smasher, Blocks That Matter, Sanctum, Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP. This bundle’s price is $9.99, instead of the usual $39.99. Buying all these games individually during the sale would cost $27.81.

Earlier this month, Valve had started selling game development software and tools on Steam. Steam now lists many popular game development software and tools such as GameMaker: Studio, Source Film Maker and 3D-Coat. Steam is also selling some tools that allow you to gauge the performance capabilities of your computer, such as 3DMark 11 and 3DMark Vantage. Along with all this, Steam had held a 10 percent off discount for the first week.

This initiative may help smaller development studios get their software out, as Steam plans to use Greenlight for non-game software too. More software titles are expected to be added now after the launch, and developers are welcome to submit their own software via Steam Greenlight.

“The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games,” said Mark Richardson at Valve. “They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests.”

Steam is one of the most popular gaming platforms on the PC. It’s become an extremely popular game distribution platform that’s used by Valve and a whole bunch of other game publishers and developers. The platform’s seasonal sales have been extremely popular with gamers the world over, with AAA titles going for as low as $10. This has always been one of the greatest strengths of the PC as a gaming platform.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
