Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic gets ported to iPad

BioWare’s classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been ported to the iPad. The game is available on the iTunes App Store and costs $9.99, which roughly translates to Rs 564. The game is being published on the iPad by Aspyr Media, which is usually responsible for porting many games to Macs.

If the reviews on the App Store page are anything to go by, the port seems to have been handled quite well. Except for a few hiccups in navigation, Knights of the Old Republic’s interface seems to lend itself quite well to touch-based controls. It is worth noting, however, that the game requires at least the iPad 2 to run and eats up a hefty 2.5GB.

The game, originally released for the PC and the Xbox, is based around 4 millennia before the events of Star Wars 4: A New Hope. It follows the story of an unremarkable Republic soldier who ends up getting stuck on a nearly-destroyed starship in the middle of a war between the Republic and the Sith, which is ruled by the villainous Sith Lord Darth Malak. The events that follow revolve around the republic soldier and how he slowly becomes a Jedi warrior. The game is notable for having a karma system; being good pushes you towards the light side of the Force and being bad pushes you towards the dark side. You get abilities depending on whether you are on the light side or the dark.

Now we can only hope that the sequel - Knights of the Old Republic 2 - may get a port to the iPad, albeit with some of the mods that made the game more “complete”.
