Square Enix releases new Final Fantasy 15 trailer; shows off more gameplay

Final Fantasy has been a long-dying franchise, but Square Enix hopes to revitalise the series with the upcoming Final Fantasy 15. According to Eurogamer , the company has released a new trailer for the game during the ongoing Tokyo Game Show. Check it out:

While the trailer starts out with footage we’ve already seen before, there is a bit of gameplay where protagonist Noctis runs around a combat-heavy area killing all the stuff he can.

Going by the trailer, Noctis’ sword is going to be used for a lot more than just stabbing big monsters. Noctis will be able to use it for traversing through the environments, such as climbing buildings or floating objects.

Going by what we’ve seen so far, Final Fantasy 15 seems to have a much darker tone than the rest of the series. Before this, the darkest games in the franchise have been Final Fantasy 7 and 12. The rest have always been considerably light-hearted, despite featuring foes that aim to destroy the planet or take over it in some capacity.

A whole new battle system

The game’s story centres around Noctis Lucis Caelum, who is the prince of an isolated kingdom and protector of the last crystal. The world’s crystals are no longer being used and people are preferring magic-technology hybrids. With his companions, Noctis defends his homeland from barbarians who seek the crystal’s gift-giving power of potentially infinite magic.

Square Enix has taken a big step away from the series’ traditional turn-based battle system. Instead, the new game opts for a more free-form fighting system where you can run around and attack enemies from whatever direction you want. It might even have hack-and-slash styled combos.

Final Fantasy 15 doesn’t have a release date yet. It will be playable on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
