Spotify app for Windows Phone updated to allow free music streaming

Spotify has refreshed its app on the Windows Phone Store to allow users to stream music for free. The app includes free music streaming as well as the option to upgrade to its premium features such as downloading songs for offline listening, higher quality audio with an add-free experience.   The free Spotify app was launched for iOS and Android app earlier this year, though it has taken a while to allow free accounts for Windows Phone users. Spotify aims to integrate the same features available on all three platforms. As with the free iOS and Android app, Windows Phone will be able to browse songs based on the artist, playlist or mood, discover new music with the built-in radio as well as shuffle songs and playlists. The update is available for Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 users.   With this move, Spotify has taken another step at broadening its user base. Despite being one of the most popular music streaming services in the world, it has stiff competition from rivals such as Beats Music, SoundCloud, Deezer and the likes. On the other hand, Microsoft needs to beef up the quality of its Windows Phone app store to stay in the smartphone game. Needless to say, Windows Phone can rejoice as they can now listen to unlimited music without having to upgrade to a premium account.   Note that Spotify has not made its services available in India. So if you are a Windows Phone user residing in India, you still won’t be able to use the Spotify app.
