With the Android One launch imminent on September 15th after the cryptic invite, Indian tech site TechPP spotted Spice's Android One phone listed on Flipkart. The Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498, quite a mouthful for a phone name, was listed on Flipkart for Rs 6,999. Of course, the listing has now been taken off.
The Spice UNO Mi-498 will come with entry level specifications. The phone will be powered by a MediaTek SoC with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and Mali 400 GPU paired with 1GB of RAM. As Sundar Pichai had mentioned in the Google Keynote, Android One phones will come with a dual-SIM configuration. Spice UNO Mi-498 will be a dual-SIM.
On the screen front, you have a 4.5-inch screen with FWVGA (854 x 480 Pixels) IPS LCD display. The phone is expected to run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The rear camera will be a 5MP shooter complete with an LED flash unit and ability to shoot full HD videos. The front camera is a 2MP one.
It will come with 4GB internal storage with the option of adding a microSD card of upto 32GB capacity. The phone will be powered by a 1700mAh Li-ion battery. Spice claims the battery will offer 10 hours of talk time and 160 hours of standby time. According to TechPP, the Android One phones will comes with 35GB of free Google Drive storage.
While Pichai had promised that the Android One phones would be priced under $100, the Rs 6,999 pricing works out to $115. Micromax and Karbonn are the other partners who will also launch the Android One phones. It is speculated that Micromax will go with a Snapdeal exclusive partnership whereas Karbonn will go with exclusive Amazon partnerships for the Android One phones. We will have to wait and watch, how they will price their phones.
