Spectranet pips Airtel in the Netflix ISP Speed Index, BSNL and MTNL remain at the bottom

Gurugram based Spectranet has overtaken Airtel in Netflix’ ISP Speed Index. Airtel is now in third place. The  Netflix ISP Speed Index for the month of June saw Mumbai-based 7star Digital as the frontrunner. According to a graphical representation on Netflix’ website, while Spectranet moved two notches up from fourth place and left Airtel and Hathway behind at number three and five respectively, both were almost at the same speed close to June end. While Airtel moved a notch down, Hathway remained unperturbed at number five. While Spectranet had a speed of 2.69 Mbps, as against 2.38 Mbps in the previous month, Airtel’s speed decreased from 2.74 Mbps to 2.63 Mbps. Syscon Infoway and Spectranet moved two notches up and Reliance Communication, Airtel, YOU Broadband, D-vois, and ATRIA Convergence Technologies went a notch down. The rest of the networks remained as is. State-run Bharat Sanchar Nagar Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nagar Limited (MTNL) took the last two spots at 13 and 12, respectively. Both the state-run telecom operators are struggling to cross an average speed of 2 Mbps. According to a report in The Economic Times, Spectranet Chief Executive, Udit Mehrotra, said, “As we are trending upwards every month since the inception of this ranking in India, we are proud to be the fastest FTTH provider in the ranking and we are looking forward to attain (sic) the fastest ISP ranking in the near future." The  Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of Netflix’ prime time performance and does not have a say in the overall performance of the app otherwise. Moreover, it does not take small devices into consideration. Disclaimer: Reliance Industries Ltd. is the sole beneficiary of Independent Media Trust which controls Network18 Media & Investments Ltd.
