Specs war: Lumia 1520 vs Xperia Z Ultra vs Micromax A114 Canvas

A breakdown of the three most popular phablets available in the Indian market right now.

Nokia today released the Lumia 1520 phablet in India. Given the deluge of phablets hitting India's markets right now, we take a look at tech specs of the Lumia and two other phablets that are its biggest rivals in Indian market-- the Micromax A 114 Canvas and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

The Lumia is at the top of the list here, costing Rs 46,999. The Z Ultra comes in second at Rs 43,990 with the Micromax Canvas being the most economical at Rs 12,999.

Screen size

Both the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra have similar sized screens - at 6 inches and 6.4 inches respectively. Once again, the Micromax Canvas is on the lower side with a 5 inch display. With regards to pixel density, the Lumia's screen comes out a notch better than the Xperia Z Ultra. The Lumia has a pixel density of 367 ppi while the Xperia Z Ultra has a pixel density of 344 ppi. The Micromax Canvas has a lower screen quality with 220 ppi.


This one is all Nokia. The Lumia is equipped with a 20 megapixel primary camera leaving the Xperia and Micromax Canvas far behind, with their more reserved 8 megapixel cameras. For the front cameras, it's the other way around. The Xperia and the Canvas each have a 2 megapixel camera while the Nokia gave up a little firepower and only put in a 1.2 megapixel camera.

Processing power

There is no contest between the Lumia 1520 and the Xperia Z Ultra in this regard - both devices have onQualcomm Snapdragon 800/ 2.2 GHz quad-core/ Adreno 330. The Canvas runs on a slower1.3GHz processor with a MediaTek chipset.


The Lumia and Xperia Z Ultra have 2GB each of RAM and the Canvas has 1GB. As far as internal storage goes, the Lumia can hold 32 GB (expandable to 64 GB), the Xperia has 16 GB (can also be expanded to 64 GB) and the Canvas has 4GB (can expand to 32 GB and has microSD card slot).

Operating System

The Lumia runs on the Windows Phone 8 OS while the Xperia Z Ultra and Canvas both run on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. Android of course has the advantage of more apps, but Windows has been catching up. Recent apps that made it to the Windows Phone 8 OS include Instagram, Flipboard, Facebook to name a few.
