One of the world's leading PC and mobile devices maker, Asus is reportedly in the process of reviving the netbook category with the new Windows 8-running VivoBook X102BA. SweClockers, who have managed to lay their hands on some specifications of the VivoBook X102BA, reports this new notebook is likely to hit stores next month.
Asus's VivoBook X102BA PC leaks
Among the known specifications are a 1.0GHz dual-core AMD A4-1200 CPU, known as Temash internally, and 2GB of RAM. The netbook is said to have a 10.1-inch touch screen display with TN panel and a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The PC will come with a 320GB hard drive, but users will have a 500GB variant to pick from too, along with the choice of going for 4GB of RAM.
Connectivity options on the VivoBook X102BA include two USB 2 slots, one for USB 3, anHDMI port, a VGA port, a card reader, an Ethernet jack and a 3.5 mm headset connector. It also has Bluetooth 4.0. Interestingly, the company is said to be bundling this VivoBook with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 that includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote. The new VivoBook will hit stores in late September for 3,299 Swedish krona (approx Rs 32,000), according to the report.
It seems surprising that Asus would revive the trend of low-powered netbooks, after that particular category faded away from the limelight owing to bad reception and low demand. But considering the slew of high-end touch-enabled Windows 8 PCs in the market and the relative lack of affordable touch systems, the netbook may just find its niche.
