There’s a new FPS on Warhammer 40,000 incoming. Titled Space Hulk: Deathwing, the game will be an FPS based on the Space Hulk board game. The switch to FPS is a bit surprising, considering the previous Space Hulk game was a turn-based tactics game and the board game as a whole is known for its strategy.
The game is being developed by Streum On Studio and will be using Unreal Engine 4. Co-producing it are Cyanide Studio and Focus Home. In the game, players will take on the role of a Space Marine from the Deathwing company. Much like any other game based on Space Hulk, the primary enemies in Deathwing will be the alien Genestealers.
Space Hulk: Deathwing will also feature an RPG system where players can earn experience points, dubbed Fervor Points, by killing things. These points can be used to upgrade the players’ skills and abilities. Players will also eventually unlock new powers and get access to more powerful weapons.
Deathwing is in contrast to the previously-released Space Hulk game. Based on the “Sin of Damnation” campaign from the 3rd-edition of the board game, Space Hulk includes a 12-mission single-player and co-operative campaign. Multiplayer mode allows players to go head-to-head as the Space Marines and the Genestealers in a fight for domination.
Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of Space Marine Terminators in a fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers.
