Digital photo frames were a fad at one point but they soon lost their sparkle. Giving a new push to the product is Sony Electronics’ recently launched HD S Series digital photo frame. What’s unique is that apart from the obvious job of displaying photos the new DPFs can also play HD movies. The Sony S Series of DPFs support 1920x1080 video playbacks. The series includes the 10-inch DPF-HD1000, 8-inch DPF-HD800 and the 7-inch DPF-HD700.

The DPFs can also play MP4 and AVCHD file formats. Equipping the frames with backlit screen and an image processor that can display content up to 192MP, Sony also claims that the DPFs are capable of even adding camcorder footage to the memory.
The in-built memory is only 2 GB but the frames support USB drives, SD, SDHC, and memory Card slots. These DPFs will be available in Sony retail stores but only in September. There is no mention of pricing.
