Sony's 2013 flagship smartphone may feature a Samsung Exynos 5 quad processor

Over the past few days, there have been a lot of rumours about upcoming Sony smartphones. The latest leak comes via a forum post on IT168 where a tipster has revealed that an upcoming Sony flagship smartphone will feature some pretty impressive specifications, including a Samsung Exynos 5 quad processor.

The move by Sony to use a Samsung Exynos 5 Quad chipset marks a move away from the company using Qualcomm chips. The rumour about this handset using the Samsung Exynos 5 quad chips may not be baseless as it is also rumoured that the upcoming flagship from Samsung, the Galaxy S IV, will also use the same chip.

The other features associated with this upcoming and yet unknown flagship device is that it will feature 3GB of RAM, a 16MP camera, a 3000 mAh battery, a 5-inch display with 1080p resolution, 128GB of inbuilt storage and an IR port. It will also be water and dust resistant.

Hackers target Sony … again!

Sony set to introduce smartphones with very impressive specifications

There are rumours suggesting that this could be the specifications of the Sony C6603 Yuga. However, previous indications had revealed different specifications for the handset, namely, a 12MP rear camera and 2GB of RAM.

The specifications listed could signify that Sony is working on more than one high-end smartphone with very impressive specifications for 2013.

An earlier report about the Sony C6603 Yuga said it is expected to feature glass panels on the front and back. If this handset does indeed come with a glass rear panel, then it will follow in the footsteps of the iPhone 4/ 4S and the Google flagship smartphone, the Nexus 4.

The earlier report stated, “The handset design looks elegant with a boxy shape (no arc or NXT features here) and a very thin bezel either side of the display. It has a striking chrome power button on the right side with volume rocker in the middle. A dedicated camera button is also present where you’d expect it to be.”

As for the software running on this handset, the report states that it is a prototype running Android v4.1.1, a new kernel version (3.4) as well as 10.1.A.0.XXX firmware, which is Jelly Bean.

An earlier report revealed some details of the upcoming smartphones from Sony. From the looks of it, it appears that Sony Mobile has four handsets that boast of above average specifications and are scheduled to launch in 2013.

The Xperia 4 appears to be the lowest end handset in the list as it features a 720p display that sports a pixel density of 360ppi. However, it appears that Sony is also adding a ton of other interesting features to the fold such as a 12MP camera, 1.5GB RAM and an 1800mAh battery. It is hard to believe that even with these high-end specifications, it is the lowest end model amongst the handsets mentioned.

The second and third handset, the Xperia 5 and 5R feature nearly identical specifications such as a 5-inch 1080p display that sports a pixel density of 440ppi, LTE, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and 32GB of internal memory. The only difference between the two is in the battery; the battery on the Xperia 5 is 2400mAh while the Xperia 5R is said to feature a 2800mAh battery.

The last handset, the Xperia 6, is believed to feature a 6-inch 1080p display with a resolution of 370ppi, LTE capabilities, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage along with a microSD card slot and a whopping 3500mAh battery.
