After promising its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update last October, Sony is finally keeping up to them by beginning the roll out of updates to older flagship smartphones. Users have started reportedly begun receiving the Android Marshmallow updates tagged as 23.5.A.0.570 for their Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and even Z3 Compact devices. The update brings all the goodness of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and certainly brings a level of polish and improvement to the camera app. But there’s a catch. Not all of them would be receiving the new update. According to the XperiaBlog , the update is rolling out only for a few specific variants. This would include the Xperia Z2 (D6503 only), Xperia Z3 (D6603 only) and Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803 only). Technically, Sony has only delivered its Marshmallow update only for those handsets that were a part of its beta program. Hopefully, the remainder of the variants would begin to see their respective updates soon as the next version of Android is due to be released in May at Google I/O. The currently available Android Marshmallow update for the above mentioned devices also delivers the February Android security patch (indeed it is a bit late). As for the rest of its flagships handsets, Sony has already rolled out its Marshmallow updates for the Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium and Z3 Plus back in March. In fact, the Xperia Z5 recently received another quick update a few days ago that seems to be more of bug fix.
