And the day has finally arrived. Sony has now unveiled its imaging-centric smartphone, the Xperia Z1. Once again built around the same OmniBalance design principles first seen in the Xperia Z, the Z1 has an aluminium frame to lend it a bit more sturdiness. Like most of the recent Sony launches, this one will be water and dustproof.
The Z1 has a 5-inch full HD Triluminos LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display also gets Sony’s OptiContrast and X-Reality Engine technologies. Internally, the smartphone comes with Qualcomm’s latest quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz and 2GB of RAM. The phone also comes with 16GB of internal flash memory which can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD slot.
The highlight of the Xperia Z1 is the 20.7 megapixel primary camera which comes with the company’s G Lens. The camera will sport a 27mm wide angle, a f2.0 aperture as well as a 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile as well as BIONZ mobile image processing engine.
Sony has finally unveiled the Xperia Z1 smartphone
The company has also included a range of camera applications for the Xperia Z1. The first on the list is Social Live, which helps to broadcast videos live from the Xperia Z1 to Facebook and the likes. Next on the list is Info-eye, which gives information on landmarks or books or food after they have been captured. Timeshift burst will allow Xperia Z1 users to take 61 images with just one click of the shutter. Users have the option of scrolling back and forth to find the image of their choice. The last on the list is AR effect, which gives a selection of customisable animations to create pictures using the company’s Smart AR augmented reality technology. The company has also built in an open SDK for the smartphone’s camera for other developers to use its features in third-party apps.
Going by the specs, a decent battery is needed. The Z1 packs a fairly big 3,000mAh battery. The Z1 comes with all the usual 2013 suspects like Wi-Fi and NFC, along with LTE cellular connectivity. The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available in black, white and purple colour variants and will hit stores this month.
