Following the Gionee E6 launch last week, here’s yet another mid-range smartphone for the Indian market. Sony’s Xperia C is now available online through Infibeam and Saholic for Rs 20,490 while Flipkart sells it for Rs 20,460.

The Xperia C follows the “phablet” trend and sports a large 5-inch display. It is powered by a 1.2GHz MTK6589 quad-core processor, with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone comes equipped with a 2,390 mAh Li-ion battery that promises 10 hours talk time on 2G as well as 3G. The dual SIM phone runs on Android Jelly Bean v4.2.2 version.

Take a quick look at the specs of the Xperia C:

  • 5-inch TFT capacitive qHD display
  • 3G, Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • GPS with A-GPS
  • 8 megapixel camera, 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera
  • 4GB internal memory, expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot

The camera supports full HD recording and other features such as face detection, sweep panorama, HDR, geo-tagging, smile shutter and more. Measuring 74.15 x 141.5 x 8.88 mm, it tips the scale at 153 grams. While Flipkart and Saholic will begin shipping the device next week, Infibeam claims to ship it in 24 hours.

Last month, Sony launched its high-end Xperia Z1 that continued the company’s trend of compact, water-and-dustproof smartphones. However, the highlight of the device was its 20.7 megapixel camera. With the Xperia C, the company is ready to compete in the mid-range market.
