Sony has introduced a new variant of the PlayStation Vita. It is set to only be available with Wi-Fi, since Sony seems to be discontinuing the 3G versions of the Vita. It will sport an overall slimmer profile, with Sony’s exact numbers being 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter than the original Vita. The new Vita will also have a rounder design and will sport an LCD panel, replacing the OLED panel of the original. Check out the promo video:
The new Vita will be available in a bunch of different colours, including black, white, lime green, light blue, pink and khaki. It will be bundled with a 1GB memory card and Sony claims that it will be able to stay alive for six hours while gaming, which is quite an upgrade when you consider the original Vita’s 3-5 hour life. Other new features include a microUSB slot for data transfers and charging as well as indicators for power and notifications at the top of the handheld.
Other than all of this, however, it will have more-or-less the same insides as the original Vita. This means that it will also carry forward all of the software and hardware features. This, of course, includes the Remote Play feature for the upcoming PlayStation 4, access to PlayStation Plus and the ability to play PlayStation Portable and original PlayStation games.
Currently, it has only been announced for Japan and is available for pre-orders through Japanese retailers. It will be hitting stores on October 10 and will cost 19,929 Yen, which roughly translates to Rs 13,056.
