Sony has announced a new mid-range smartphone, under the Xperia T series. The Xperia T3 will be available globally by the end of July, but Sony has not revealed the price of the phablet. The T3 features a stainless steel frame around the sides, which immediately sets it apart from other mid-range Sony phones, which normally feature matte plastic on the sides. The phone is a mere 7.7mm thick, and we are presuming the pricing would be under Rs 30,000, given the specs. Another highlight is its support for 4G, but it’s not yet known whether the LTE network in India will be supported.
The Xperia T3 is very much a phablet, thanks to the large 5.3-inch display with 720P resolution. The display is of the Triluminos variety, with Sony’s mobile Bravia Engine 2 enhancing colours for some apps and with a pixel density of 277ppi, which is quite good given the size of the phone. On the back is an 8-megapixel Sony Exmor RS autofocus camera with LED flash. Sony has packed in all the usual suspects for the camera including HDR mode, scene detection, face recognition, red-eye reduction, Panorama, burst mode etc. It also houses a 1.1-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. The Xperia T3 comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, and you can add to that via microSD card (up to 32GB). It supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, GPRS/ EDGE, DLNA, NFC, Micro-USB, LTE and 3G connectivity options. The 2500mAh battery is rated for up to 13 hours of talk time and 688 hours of standby time.
