In an attempt by Sony to curb the damage caused by the GOP hackers, the company has threatened Twitter with legal action over users who share information about the leaks.
Earlier **reports** suggest that Sony had already warned the media that it would sue organisations if they tried to publish stolen mails. Attorney David Boies, a prominent lawyer hired by the company, demanded that Sony’s “stolen information” publicly available on the Internet by the gigabytes should be returned or destroyed immediately because it contains privileged, private information.
The V****erge reports that, the threat was made in a letter sent by Sony lawyer David Boies to VIjaya Gadde, Twitter’s general counsel, and conveyed that the company would “hold Twitter responsible for any damage or loss arising” from the use or continued dissemination of the stolen information.
Motherboard shares that, Sony asked Twitter to share the legal threat with Val Broeksmit, a musician who has been posting screenshots of hacked Sony emails on Twitter. His twitter handle is bikinrobotarmy. Though Twitter confirmed that the letter is authentic, it declined to comment on the company’s response.
Sony copyright expert Ellliot Ingram had sent a Direct Message on Twitter to Val Broeksmit requesting him to remove the tweets that they have identified. Rather than complaining to Twitter, Sony thought it would be a better idea to talk directly. Val did not take this threat seriously but, his account was temporary suspended.
