Holograms are not here yet, but Sony seems to be working on the necessary equipment to take us one step closer. Demoed at the SXSW taking place in Austin, the prototype projector is able to sense depth and motion, turning any flat surface into a what Sony’s Future Labs calls an Interactive Tabletop. The projector works with motion sensors and depth sensors to detect where objects are placed and can even calculate the direction that your hand is point at. At the SXSW, The Verge
reports that Sony brought the classic Alice in Wonderland novel to life. Albeit programmed, it is interesting to see how the contents of the books (characters and text) can be animated or highlighted to make it more interactive, without the need of a display. The characters can be picked as dragged about, while the characters interact with other objects present on the table like the tea cup or the cards. Coming to projector itself, it appears to be a Xbox One-like black box with a couple of sensors and a projector build in what appears to be a compact package, The usage cases for the same are limitless indeed, although Sony says claims that these will just be prototypes (for now). Image: The Verge[/caption] Sony also demoed its Concept N Bluetooth headphones at SXSW. The headphones aim to deliver audio without the need push a pair of earbuds into your ears that will block all the other noise around. This it claims will be really useful for cyclists who need to be in touch with the world around them and listen to music at the same time. Clearly, this would make for a very unique hearing experience where the audio is projected upwards from below your ears instead of blaring right into them.
