The RX100 has been a flagship device for Sony and now the company has launched the latest fifth generation of the camera in India for Rs 79,990. The new RX100 V is said to offer the fastest focusing speeds thanks to its Fast Hybrid AF system along with 315 autofocus points covering approximately 65 per cent of the frame. The camera can offers a burst speed of 24 fps which is indeed the fastest ever for a compact camera. It comes with a newly developed 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor (13.2 x 8.8mm size) with a DRAM chip, a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T 24-70mm F/1.8-2.8 aperture lens, and an enhanced image processing system with a new front-end LSI chip. It also offers 4K video recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning, super slow motion recording at up to 960fps along with extended recording time. With its high speed Anti-Distortion Shutter (maximum speed of 1/32000th of a second) it minimises the rolling shutter experienced with fast moving subjects.
Other features include a tiltable TFT display, a high-contrast 2.35 million dot XGA OLED viewfinder, a built-in ND filter, Wi-Fi and NFC. All of this is packed in a 101.6x58.1x41mm aluminum body weighing at just 299g. The price is a whopping Rs 79,990, but it definitely sounds like a beast among compact cameras. The last generation had an issue of overheating and the annoying issue of supporting high-speed SD cards to record 4K videos. Hopefully that issue has been resolved.
