Sony recently announced the upcoming portable gaming device, the PS Vita at this year’s annual E3 gaming trade show; the company has now revealed more details regarding the product in an FAQ on Tuesday through their official PlayStation website.

The PlayStation Vita, which was previously known as the NGP (Next Generation Portable) will be rolled out in a phased manner across Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) regional market by the end of 2011. The device will have both, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, where users will be able to encounter, connect, discover, share and play with their friends wherever they are. Users have an option of using the PS Vita over only a Wi-Fi connection thus removing the need to subscribe to a 3G connection. One can download the games to a storage media via the Internet from the PlayStation Store wherein the PS Store can be accessed over a Wi-Fi or a 3G connection. There will be a new game medium for the upcoming game titles for the PS Vita.
The PS Vita will come in a screen size of 5 inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 960 x 544 pixels. The new device will have an embedded battery which cannot be removed since it is equipped with a rear touchpad The device will feature two slots one for the new medium of games and the other for storage media. The game medium will be a small flash memory based card which is dedicated to PS Vita. This card will take advantage of Flash memory and SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich, immersive games. We will announce the official name at a later date.
The new medium of games can store the full software titles, and also save data as well as additional game content data. Therefore, the game title can be concluded with one card. The features on the storage media slot, details will be available later on. Users can play PSP titles, minis and PS1 classics titles which are offered on PS Store. UMD which were on PSPs will not be supported on the PS Vita. Sony goes on to say that PSN accounts will be available for PS Vita. However even though this device has some nifty features, there will be no video output option for the PS Vita.
