Sony today launched its new generation Sony PlayStation 4 in India today at a price of Rs 39,990.
The device will be available in stores on January 6th 2014, and consumers can pre-order it online on all major e-commerce stores.
Sony's PlayStation 4 comes with a powerful eight-core X86 AMD "Jaguar" CPU and a 1.84 Teraflop AMD Radeon graphics engine.
That is some pretty powerful processing for a device that is expected to run games with hardcore graphics. The device also has a 8GB of fast GDDR5 memory.
Face recognition to login and voice command are some of the options with the PS4.
One controller will come for free with the device. However, if you want to buy one more you have to shell out Rs 4,999.
It will come with hard drive for storage and not an SSD. However the capacity has not been specified.
Online streaming of games: The PS4 will use Gaikai game streaming technology which will allow users to directly download games on their console. Users can play the game online as it downloads. The console will also have the ability to download games in the background, even while it is powered off. Users will also be able to upload videos online while playing games and thus share their gameplay on social networks in near real-time.
The Gaikai game streaming technology will be available from next year only.
DualShock 4 gaming controller: This has a built-in touchpad that goes in the very center of the controller. Sony also promises improved rumble, reduced latency and some other performance improvements with the new controller.
PlayStation Network (PSN): This will also include Facebook and Ustream. A broadcast button on the controller will allow users to interact with PSN friends, who can watch or take over their friends' gaming via their own controller.
