Sony has unveiled a new iteration of its 3D head-mounted displays. The new one, named HMZ-T3 , retails for a hefty £1,299 price tag, which converts to around Rs 1,32,000 at today’s rate, and supports both the PlayStation 3 and PC for gaming. It is possible that the company might release a firmware update of some sort that could potentially bring compatibility for the PlayStation 4 as well.

The head-mounted display supports 60GHz wireless transmission and has dual 720p OLED displays. It also boasts of 7.1 channel surround sound capabilities. According to Sony, the battery on the HMZ-T3 can support up to three-hours with a wireless HD connection. On HDMI, it can supposedly go up to seven hours.

According to earlier reports , Sony plans to bring virtual reality gaming to the PlayStation 4. Currently, it isn’t known what peripheral the PS4 will use, but apparently, it will be something that works similar to the Oculus Rift. Sony has demonstrated its own VR headset internally with the upcoming racing game DriveClub.

Sony has previous experience with head-mounted displays and the HMZ-T2 comes to mind, especially since it can be used with 3D as well as HD content. It has two 720p OLED displays that can render 3D pictures in high-contrast detail. However, reports state that the Oculus Rift is a better performer than the HMZ-T2 when it comes to gaming. The company is expected to showcase its virtual reality headset some time next year.

It is currently unknown if whether Sony will bring out a new virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 4 or if it will use the rather expensive HMZ-T3.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
