Sony launches FDR-X3000R and HDR-AS300R action cameras

Although the action camera category is dominated by the GoPro , Sony has also tried making cameras that can be taken on your next adventure trip. Recently, the Japanese tech company announced two new action cams, the FDR-X3000R and the HDR-AS300R. The key difference between the two is the former records in 4K UHD while the latter in Full HD. The main feature that stands out in the two new cameras is the optical image stabilization that Sony calls Balanced Optical SteadyShot or B.O.SS. Basically you get a camera and lens assembly that are joined together and move simultaneously to produce a smooth footage. A new Zeiss Tessar lens has also been added which features reduced barrel distortion when compared to other action cameras. The cameras include an Exmor R CMOS sensor with a BIONZ X image processor. The video 4K footage is captured at 100Mbps while 1080p is done at 50Mbps. If you seek high frame rate video, then Sony has it covered too. The 4K model can shoot 120fps video in 1080p whereas the full HD model can record it in 720p. There’s also a new Zeiss Tessar lens with reduced barrel distortion compared to other action cameras. Of course the cameras are splash-proof, and can also be taken underwater to up to 60m by using the supplied housing. The camera also comes with a unique live-view remote unit that can be worn like a watch or be attached to a tripod or the camera case. The Sony FDR-X3000 is priced at $400 (Rs 26,000 approx.) and the Sony FDR-X3000R with the Live-View Remote for $550 (Rs 35,750 approx.). The HDR-AS300 is priced at $300 (roughly Rs 19,500) and the HDR-AS300R with the remote for $450 (roughly Rs 29,250). There is no confirmation of its availability in India yet.
